Accident Claim - Soldier’s Whiplash Was Actually Broken Kneck
A war veteran who broke his neck in a vehicle crash was allegedly sent home from a hospital after medics failed to spot his injury.
John Jarvis, 82, faces a long recovery after his broken neck was obviously misdiagnosed as whiplash.
Mr Jarvis was taken by ambulance on a spinal board to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary after a road accident on the A65 near Ingleton in July this year.
Despite being in agony he says he was not X-rayed. Doctors diagnosed whiplash and discharged him. After four days of immense discomfort at his Cheshire home Mr Jarvis’ relatives took him to a private public hospital where the broken neck was identified.
But despite his ordeal Mr Jarvis is not seeking compensation, merely the £995 he was forced to spend on private treatment.
Tony Halsall, ruler executive of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, said: “The Trust is presently unable to comment on Mr Jarvis’ case pending an investigation. Following the investigation the Trust will take whatever action is appropriate and respond to the individuals paternal.”
